National Register of Citizen’s (NRC) has been successfully conducted in the State of Assam to deliver on the promise made more than 30 years ago to the State in the document called Assam Accord which was signed in the year 1985 by the then Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi who was later assassinated due to the country’s role in the civil war of Sri Lanka by the radical outfit LTTE led by Anna Prabhakaran who was recently killed and his movement died with him in the foothills of the northern part of the island nation. The flow of information through the setup thus stopped, and s counter-insurgency regime begin by the armed forces and especially in the southern region as well as the northeastern region where infiltrators were disguised as political asylum seekers and refugees that demanded asylums on the backs of religious persecution in their own State which was at the same point of time a humanitarian crises that India as a country had to extend it’s helping hand to but be wary of the national security consequences of the mass inflow of people from a different state as motives do not paint themselves on the face of an individual seeking an asylum. Thus, NRC which was started in 2016 as a concatenated solution to be delivered to the northeast amidst the chaotic rule of AFSPA in some state which granted Army and the other defense forces unprecedented powers to crack down on infiltration so that the registry can take place in all honesty and basic necessities. Technology also played a very important role in seeding who were the citizens of the country before the cutoff date which was set for 1971, the time when a huge number of refugees started coming into the country from Bangladesh on account of the atrocities carried on by West Pakistan on then East Pakistan and now Bangladesh. Biometric scanners and the digitization of archival documents helped a lot of citizens prove their nationality and at the same point of time targeted those who were illegally settled in the State and the country which was a very important distinction to make and the employment of technology mostly took out the aspect of human error from the system, making it more reliable and informative and at the same point of time precise and direct while calculating the National Register of Citizen.
